Come join Mahala and her mom as they go on a paddle boarding adventure on the lake! Creation comes alive as her mother tells the story of Mahala’s great-great-great grandma, a First Nations young woman who trusted Creator and lived her life beneath the mountains. Young and old will enjoy stepping into this story, imagining with Mahala what it must have been like for her ancestor to walk with Creator and see evidence all around!
Background:
When my oldest daughter was in elementary school, I used to tell her stories at bedtime, always trying to find new ways to share about the love God had for her and how he invited her to find him and reflect his ways to the world. Far from the conservative faith in which I became a follower of Jesus, yet still deeply in love with him and what he came to do in the world to redeem and restore it, I have wondered what it might have been like for First Nations people as they walked in the knowledge of Creator even before they were taught of Jesus. Having recently discovered some surprising things about my own historical family, I starting imagining what it would have been like, had they told the care of God for his creation in their own story-telling way.
After a reflective silent retreat last summer, the story of Mahala and the Mountain was born. I can’t wait to see it come to life!
